GreenMan Announces Cast for "The Matchmaker!!"


Elmhurst, IL--GreenMan Theatre Troupe is pleased to announce the cast for their spring production of Thornton Wilder's classic farce "The Matchmaker."

Wilder's play, which was later adapted into the musical "Hello, Dolly!," deals with wealthy widower Horace Vandergelder in search of a second wife. For this, he acquires the matchmaking services of Dolly Levi at the turn of the 20th century in Yonkers, New York. Dolly has already arranged a match between Horace and Irene Molloy, a young widow who runs a millinery business in New York City. Dolly, however, has decided that she herself would be the ideal match for Horace. As the play opens, Horace prevents an engagement between his young niece, Ermengarde, and an artist named Ambrose Kemper. Horace sends newly hired Malachi Stack into New York City to arrange for dinner plans for later. As Horace leaves for the city, he leaves his clerks Cornelius Hackl and Barnaby Tucker in charge of the store. Cornelius decides this is a fine time for him to start living, so he and Barnaby travel into the city for some adventure. Later when Cornelius and Barnaby end up in Irene's store pretending to be wealthy young men just before Horace and Dolly arrive, the farcical elements start to fly. They continue on into the evening as Irene insists that Cornelius and Barnaby accompany her and her young assistant Minnie Fay to the same restaurant, unbeknownst to them, that Malachi has arranged for Horace to dine in.

Harold LeBoyer appears in the production as Horace and Dolly is played by Mary Pavia. Dana Clouser appears as Ermengarde and Ambrose will be portrayed by Christopher Cavanaugh. Malachi Stack is played by Stan Kosek. Carl Zeitler appears as Cornelius and Erick Sosa will be portraying Barnaby. Elizabeth Owsley appears as Irene Molloy and Minnie Fay will be played by Vicky Giannini. Other actors in "The Matchmaker" include Jim Bruner, Rance Clouser, Lynn Sciaraffa Homeier, Tammy Job, Nancy Mesenbrink, and Mary-Carol Riehs. GreenMan Artistic Director David Soria is directing the production. Alice Rebecchi is the stage manager. Carl Zeitler serves as production coordinator. Benjamin Vargas is in charge of the show's costume design. Jim Ocasek is the technical coordinator. Steven Soria is in charge of sound and program design. Lynn Sciaraffa Homeier is the assistant stage manager.


"The Matchmaker" opens on Friday April 20 and runs for 3 weekends until Sunday May 6. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees begin at 2 pm.
