Reflecting Back while Looking Ahead at GreenMan Theatre!

GreenMan has now completed its eight season, and we thank everyone who supported us.

The season got underway in September with the emotional Showcase production of "The Guys" by Anne Nelson to help commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11.

"The Guys"

In early October, our annual presentation of "Spooky Stories of the Season" delighted patrons.

Later that month, our fall production of Don Nigro's darkly comic mystery "Ravenscroft" took us to a remote English manor in the dead of winter in 1905 for 9 performances.

"Love Throughout the Ages"

In November we then performed a one-night readers theater presentation at the Elmhurst Library of various scenes dealing with the theme of love in various stages and contexts of life called "Love Throughout the Ages."

"How the West Was Done In"

Next up was our annual fundraiser dinner theatre murder mystery event at Angelo's Ristorante. This year's show, "How the West Was Done In" by Carolyn Thomas-Davidoff and Carl Zeitler, once again played to sold out audiences in February.

"Soldier, Come Home"

In early April, we reprised last year's Showcase production of "Soldier, Come Home" by Frank W. Wicks and took it on the road for a one-night presentation at the Orland Park Library.

"The Matchmaker"
We closed the season with our spring production of Thornton Wilder's classic comedy"The Matchmaker" for 3 weekends in April and May.

During Season 8, GreenMan also collaborated with the Elmhurst Historical Museum on two exhibits. In the fall, GreenMan actors recorded a local family's Civil War era correspondence as a soundtrack for the "Letters From Home" exhibit and later performed selections at the Churchville Schoolhouse. This spring and summer, GreenMan's Tim Ahlberg appears as Mr. Sweet in the "Twisted Candy Wrapping Challenge" video in the recently opened "Sweet Home Chicago" exhibit.

Looking ahead to our ninth season, we begin by presenting another seasonally delightful helping of "Spooky Stories of the Season," in which some of the participants of the storytelling class are chosen to spellbind the audience with chilling tales on October 5 and 6, 2012.

Next up is our first foray into Shakespeare with his tragedy "Macbeth." This timeless tale of ambition will run on 9 weekend dates from October 19-November 4, 2012.

Next season's murder mystery fundraiser will be "Smoking Gun" by Carl Zeitler and Carolyn Thomas-Davidoff. This production deals with a private detective dealing with underworld figures and high ranking members of the entertainment industry as he searches for a priceless diamond and it will run for 5 performances from February 22-March 3, 2013 at Angelo's Ristorante.

Our Showcase production is next, and this year's presentation is an original adaptation of the classic children's story "The Secret Garden." Linda Roberts, who appeared in "Pride and Prejudice" and "Ravenscroft" at GreenMan will adapt and direct this production. "The Secret Garden" will run April 5-14, 2013. Corporate funding for this production by BMO Harris Bank.

Our ninth season will close with a collection of short plays and/or one-acts that deal with endings, beginnings, and comic takes on Mayan prophecies. The production, titled "After the End of the World," will run May 3-19, 2013. Be sure to check this website for further information about all of these productions, and we look forward to seeing you next season.
